PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that complicated devices and processing methods such as an infrared image, a special filter, and the like and much processing time are required to detect defective pixels due to dust/scratches on a transmission document from image data obtained by reading the transmission document. SOLUTION: Image data are divided into blocks, and thresholds are obtained from an average value and standard deviation for each block, and thresholds and image data are compared with each other to detect defective pixels.
