PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultraviolet absorbing resin which contains little foreign matter and has ultraviolet absorbing ability; and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The method for producing the ultraviolet absorbing resin includes a process for filtering and purifying an ultraviolet absorbing resin by using an extruder 2 equipped with a polymer filter 4 having a filtering precision of not larger than 20μm under a condition that the melt viscosity of the resin becomes not higher than 1,000 Pa s at a shear rate of 100/sec.
