<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize a character in a character image composed of overlapped patterns of arbitrary shapes with high precision. <P>SOLUTION: A hash table registration part 22 generates a hash table 16 showing features of partial input images being local regions of each character category, and a recognition processing part 21 divides an input image into meshes to divide it into partial input images and calculates features of respective partial input images and retrieves partial character images whose features are similar to those of the respective partial input images, from the hash table and compares the positional relation of the partial input images and that of partial character images with each other to evaluate consistency and recognizes a character and a region of the input image including the character. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
