PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable of preventing occurrence of any defective image by suppressing the idling of a paper feed shaft during the secondary paper feed to be small. SOLUTION: In the paper feeder, a joint member 36 engaged with a paper feed shaft 35 for supporting a paper feed roller for feeding paper sheets and a body side driving shaft 34 to connect both shafts to each other is kept movably in the axial direction of the paper feed shaft 35 and the body side driving shaft 34, and the joint member 36 is urged in the axial direction by a spring 38. When the joint member 36 urged in the axial direction by the spring 38 is at the maximum projecting position, the joint member 36 is abutted on neither the paper feed shaft 35 nor the body side shaft 34.
