The invention relates to a method for measuring the seed quality of a sample of seed of a plant, which method comprises the steps of providing a calibration line for seed of the plant, in which the normalized expression level of at least one gene which is differentially expressed between priming and germination of seed of the plant is plotted against the seed quality of seed of the plant, measuring the normalized expression level of the at least one gene in the sample; and reading the seed quality of the sample from the calibration line.
