<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging roll cleaner in which deformation of a cleaning roll for cleaning a charging roll is suppressed; to provide a charging device in which occurrence of a charging failure is suppressed; to provide a cartridge having the charging device; and to provide an image forming apparatus in which occurrence of image defects is suppressed. <P>SOLUTION: The charging device includes: the cleaning roll which removes adhering matter on the surface of the charging roll by following the rotation of the charging roll in contact with it, the charging roll being rotated in a predetermined normal direction in contact with a body to be charged and used to apply charges to the surface of this body; and a holding part which holds the cleaning roll in freely rotatable manner, and which holds the cleaning roll in a first attitude in which a predetermined contact pressure is produced between the charging roll and cleaning roll, when the charging roll rotates in a normal direction, and in a second attitude in which a contact pressure lower than the predetermined contact pressure is produced between the charging roll and the cleaning roll, when the charging roll rotates in a reverse direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
