PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high-speed edge processing with a small operation amount and a small number of times of memory reference. SOLUTION: An edge detecting part 24A of an edge processing part 24 detects edges present at the lower side, right side and upper side of a target pixel. A length calculating part 24B calculates a length of a black pixel train continuous along a longitudinal direction or horizontal direction straight line. A replacement part 24C determines a replacement pattern on the basis of the length obtained by calculating and carries out replacement of dots to a different size for black pixels (L dots) continuous along the longitudinal direction or horizontal direction straight line.
