PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a prognostic/diagnostic marker for esophageal cancer having sufficiently high predictive accuracy, a prognostic/diagnostic method to use the marker, a treating method against a cancer cell having high colony-forming ability and highly expressing the prognostic marker gene, and a treating agent. SOLUTION: The problems are solved by the finding that genes EMX2 and TTYH2 are useful for the postoperative prognostic expectation of esophageal cancer and that the inhibition of the expression of these genes has correlation to the colony-forming ability.
