PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To print the frame image of a desired frame in photography video as a photograph having an aspect ratio different from that of the photography video without interposing equipment, such as a personal computer, and to improve functionality in an imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: In the imaging apparatus for recording the photography video on a first recording medium and cutting the frame image of the desired frame in the photography video recorded on the first recording medium for recording on a second recording medium, and a method of controlling the imaging apparatus, the frame image of a designated frame in the photography video is reproduced from the first recording medium for display, a picture frame having size selected by an outside operation is displayed on the frame image, and an image portion surrounded by the picture frame of the frame image is recorded on the second recording medium.
