PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating system capable of yielding a finish appearance and design (hue, color development) comparable to those of conventional multi-layer coating films including intermediate coating films, even when the formation of intermediate coating films is omitted from environmental and energy-saving standpoints. SOLUTION: The electrodeposition coating system is at least equipped with: two electrodeposition tanks for forming an electrodeposition film on a surface of an article to be coated, and; a conveying means for conveying the article to be subjected to electrodeposition coating. The two electrodeposition tanks includes: a first electrodeposition tank containing a cationic electrodeposition coating composition (1) for forming a cured electrodeposition film showing a lightness index L of 25 or larger but smaller than 60; and a second electrodeposition tank containing a cationic electrodeposition coating composition (2) for forming a cured electrodeposition film showing a lightness index L of 60 or larger but smaller than 90.
