#CMT# #/CMT# The component (100) e.g. a cover, has a step on its surface (102) facing the other component when assembled. The upper part of the step is a sealing edge (124), along which a sealing line (128) runs. Along its length, the sealing edge exhibits a height profile. The component includes openings (108) for fastenings which press it against another component. The sealing edge runs between the fastening hole regions. It is hollow-profiled, such that its height is greater between openings, than near them. The seal used is e.g. a fluoropolymer. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# A sealed casing cover used with e.g. hydraulic or pneumatic control units in engines or gears. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The seal remains reliable under stresses of high temperatures, temperature changes and pressure variations. The narrow pressing edge increases the mechanical sealing pressure, along the line of sealing. Adequate macro-sealing is achieved. The required height profile can be established by finite-element modeling. It assures the most uniform sealing pressure possible, along the edge. In earlier designs, the sealing pressure falls with increasing distance from the fastening points. This is corrected in the new design, by appropriate elevation of the sealing profile between them. #CMT#DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS : #/CMT# The drawing shows a plan view of the cover and mounting surfaces. 100 : component 102 : surface 108 : openings for fastenings 124 : sealing edge 128 : sealing line. |
