PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of stretching a polymer film, the development of necking in which can be suppressed, and a method of manufacturing a polarizer employing thereof.

SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the polarizer includes a dyeing process for dyeing a hydrophilic polymer film 1 with a dichroitic substance and a stretching process for stretching the hydrophilic polymer film 1. The stretching process is executed in the dyeing process and in at least one process excepting the dyeing process in such a manner that the stretching process is executed by spanning the hydrophilic polymer film 1 between a pair of rolls 2a and 2b arranged at a certain distance and stretched by applying tension to the hydrophilic polymer film 1 between the rolls by rotating the respective rolls 2a and 2b of the pair of the rolls.
