<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of difficulty performing complex operations if equipment is operated only through gesture recognition based on images taken by an image pickup means and the problem of limitations on functions that can be operated only through gesture recognition, regarding a device and a method that use gesture inputs in the operation of the equipment. <P>SOLUTION: Input operations on the equipment are performed by using in a composite manner the gesture recognition based on images taken by the image pickup means 101 and a contact detection means 102 such as a touch panel, so that a step for determining control instructions and a step for executing the control instructions can be determined independently. Further, it is possible to determine and execute the control instructions while selecting the subject of operation and to operate the parameters of the control instructions independently.
