PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable information system for retrieving automatically audiovisual data from a database, using global positioning system (GPS) data as a key. SOLUTION: This GPS retrieval device is provided with: the database; a means for determining a positional data related to a user, using a GPS receiver or a satellite positioning system receiver, which are preferably built in; a means for retrieving automatically sound information and visual information, or either of the sound information or the visual information, from the database, using a data retrieval key obtained from a user position having an optional combination of a position, a direction, an advancing direction, a direction of sight line, a speed, an altitude, a date and a time; a means for selecting or presetting a data interested by the user; and means for outputting a retrieved data.
