摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolytic cell capable of suppressing back reaction by preventing a metal (e.g. Ca) produced on a cathode side from invading into an anode side and maintaining a high current efficiency, and a production method of an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or a rare earth metal using the electrolytic cell. SOLUTION: The electrolytic cell is a flow-through electrolytic cell, in which the anode 1 chamber side is kept at a pressurized state relative to the cathode 2 chamber side during electrolysis. A pressurized state is such a state that a head difference exists between the anode chamber side and the cathode chamber side and can be achieved by the methods of bringing the liquid level of an electrolytic bath at the anode side higher than that at the cathode side, setting a higher pressure in a gaseous phase in the anode chamber relative to that in the cathode chamber (see figure (b)), applying a pumping pressure to the electrolytic bath at the anode side (see figure (a)), etc. The electrolytic cell can be used to continuously produce metals such as Na, Ca, Mg and La which are produced by the electrolysis method.
