PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shift the preparation of a succeeding drawing process quickly without needing any cooling waiting time even when a preform is attached previously with a lower chuck on the lower side of a heating furnace. SOLUTION: In the glass preform drawing device 1, the preform 9 for optical fiber is grasped with an upper chuck 11 supporting the upper edge side of the preform 9 and a lower chuck supporting the lower edge side of the preform 9, and the preform 9 is drawn in the heating furnace. The upper chuck 11 includes: a supporting pin 49 passing through the upper edge side of the preform 9; a rotary supporting body 51 rotating to a supporting posture to support both the edges of the supporting pin 49 and to a supporting releasing posture to release the support of the supporting pin 49 from the supporting posture; and a driving means 53 capable of remote-controlling the rotary supporting body 51 to the supporting posture and the supporting release posture from the outside, and is also provided freely rotatably with the axial center orthogonal to the rotary axial center of the rotary supporting body 51 as the center.
