<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for economically producing a high-purity aliphatic tertiary amine with a small amount of a by-product by subjecting a fatty acid amide to hydrogenation reduction under mild conditions and an amine derivative from the amine in high productivity. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing a tertiary amine in the presence of a catalyst containing copper and at least one element selected from the group consisting of elements belonging to Groups 2, 3, 7 and 12 of the periodic table (long form of the periodic table) includes (a) a process for reducing an amide compound in a hydrogen atmosphere, and (b) a process for introducing a dialkylamine containing 1-6C alkyl groups into the reaction product obtained in the process. The method for producing amine oxide comprises reacting the tertiary amine obtained by the production method with hydrogen peroxide. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
