<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a physiological monitoring system. <P>SOLUTION: This physiological monitoring system is configured to detect light of at least first and second wavelengths attenuated by the human body tissue, and one or more intensity signals are outputted based on the detected light. A first calculation technique is utilized to determine at least a first value representing at least one physiological characteristic of pulsing blood based on at least one of the one or more intensity signals, and a second calculation technique is utilized to determine at least a second value representing a physiological characteristic based on at least one of the one or more intensity signals.
