PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to correct potential unevenness on the surface of an image carrier by outputting a toner image for measuring potential unevenness so as to be hardly influenced by a developing means, and predicting the potential unevenness on the surface of the image carrier from the density of the toner image. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus performs following processing: (i) charging the surface of the image carrier 1, (ii) exposing the surface of the image carrier charged to a predetermined latent image potential, (iii) outputting a toner image for at least one turn of the image carrier by developing the latent image potential with predetermined developing bias, and (iv) detecting the density of the toner image, at a plurality of latent image potentials different in potential level, and two-dimensional potential unevenness on the surface of the image carrier is corrected by controlling a correction means 3 based on two-dimensional distribution of the obtained density of a plurality of toner images. The developing bias for outputting the toner image at the plurality of latent image potentials is changed in accordance with the latent image potential. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
