PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a link geometry which solves a problem of mouth opening of a cap for a crankshaft and brings a crankshaft and control shaft in close contact with each other in an engine horizontal direction. SOLUTION: A double-link type internal combustion engine consisting of an upper link 3, a lower link 4, a control link 5 and a control shaft 7, is equipped with: a crankshaft main bearing lower side member 13 for supporting a crankshaft 6 in a space between a cylinder block 1; a crankshaft main bearing fastening members 15, 17 for fastening the crankshaft main bearing lower side member 13 to the cylinder block 1; a control shaft main bearing member 14 for supporting the control shaft 7; and a control shaft main bearing fastening members 16, 18 for fastening the control shaft main bearing member 14 to the crankshaft main bearing lower side member 13. An axial line of the crankshaft main bearing fastening members 17 closer to the control shaft 7 in the front view of the engine is situated in a range sandwiched by respective axial lines of the control shaft fastening members 16, 18.
