The rapid switching magnet has a housing (1), a coil (4) with a control part and an anchor piston (2). A plunger (5) gripping the coil leaves the housing through excitation of the rapid switching magnet with the opposite end of the anchor piston. A field coil (12) arranged in the housing is centrally arranged around the coil and the anchor piston for driving the anchor piston. The anchor piston and the plunger are mechanically separated from each other. The rear standing position (15) of the plunger is arranged in a no current condition in safe distance behind a reference surface (14).
