A portable terminal and a message writing method thereof are provided to prepare a message through the voice even without using an input unit, control the movement of a cursor and modify the message through the voice, thereby enabling a user to search and revise words desired to be modified within the message. An input unit(215) includes a dictation key. When the dictation key is inputted, an audio processing unit(220) receives a voice signal. A display unit(280) displays a message corresponding to the inputted voice signal. If the dictation key is inputted through the input unit, a controller(225,230,240,250) analyzes the voice signal inputted through the audio processing unit and then determines whether the voice signal is for the modification of the message or not. If not, the controller displays the message. But if so, the controller revises the message according to the voice signal. |
