PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat spreader for a display device such as a plasma display panel, a light emitting diode or a liquid crystal display, the heat spreader that can be produced in a sufficient size and in an inexpensive manner. SOLUTION: The heat spreader 10 has a sheet of compressed particles of exfoliated graphite having a surface area greater than the surface area of a back surface part of the display device where a localized region of high temperature is generated; and the sheet is covered with a protective coating 20 that suppresses flaking of the compressed particles from the sheet.
