PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superconducting electromagnet through whose coil a larger electric current can be passed. SOLUTION: The superconducting electromagnet 10 has a magnetic circuit member 40 connecting both ends of a core 12 wound with a tape type superconducting wire so as to form a magnetic circuit, and the magnetic circuit member 40 is formed of a ferromagnetic body and has: a pair of core connection portions 41 coupled to both the ends of the core 12 and having an external diameter equal to the size of at least the core 12 and coil 12; and a connection portion 32 connecting the pair of core connection portions 41 through outside the coil 20, wherein the core connection portions 41 have such lengths in the direction of a center axis C that the direction of a magnetic field generated at an end of the coil in the direction of the center axis C when the electric current is caused to pass through the coil 20 is parallel or nearly parallel to a tape surface of the superconducting wire S.
