PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel fluoranthene compound and an organic light emitting device having extremely high durability as well as a light emitting output of extremely high efficiency and extremely high brightness. SOLUTION: The novel fluoranthene compound is represented by formula [II] (wherein at least one of R<SB>21</SB>to R<SB>23</SB>is a substituted or unsubstituted condensed polycyclic group, or a substituted or unsubstituted condensed heterocyclic group). The organic light emitting device constituted of an anode, a cathode, and a layer consisting of an organic compound disposed therebetween, is characterized in that the layer consisting of an organic compound comprises at least one fluoranthene compound.
