PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide "a vehicle periphery monitoring device" previously avoiding a collision with an obstacle existing at the periphery of one's own vehicle when a peripheral image of the one's own vehicle is displayed. SOLUTION: This vehicle periphery monitoring device has an obstacle detection means for detecting the obstacle at the periphery of the one's own vehicle; a photographing means for photographing the periphery of the one's own vehicle; a display means for displaying a top view image T at the periphery of the one's own vehicle photographed by the photographing means on a display; and an obstacle shielding means for shielding at least a part of the obstacle 14 included in the top view image displayed by the display means by a mask pattern 142 when the obstacle is detected by the obstacle detection means.
