PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming a multilayered coating film capable of giving the same coating film appearance as that given by a conventional twice baking method even when coating with three coating layers and baking the coating layers at a time. SOLUTION: The method of forming the multilayered coating film includes the steps of: forming a first base coating film layer on a substrate coating with an electrodeposition coating material by coating with an aqueous first base coating material; forming a second base coating layer on the first base coating layer by coating with an aqueous second base coating material by a wet-on-wet system, further forming a clear coating layer on the second base coating layer by coating with a clear coating layer by a wet-on-wet system; and thereafter baking the three coating layers at a time, wherein the aqueous first base coating material contains as essential constituents a cross-linking agent, and a hydroxyl group containing nonionic resin having 4-15 mass% of an ethylene oxide unit and/or a propylene oxide unit, a resin acid value of less than 15 mgKOH/g, and a hydroxyl group value of 10-100 mgKOH/g.
