[PROBLEM] There is provided a diaphragm, and a loudspeaker unit using the same, capable of providing better low-tone characteristics than conventional ones. [SOLUTION] A loudspeaker unit of the present invention includes a base frame and a cover plate joined to each other to provide a flat casing. Arranged in the casing are a diaphragm 3 and a drive mechanism 2 for vibrating the diaphragm 3. The diaphragm 3 consists of a rectangular area 30a and a pair of semielliptic areas 30b, 30b spreading rightward and leftward from the rectangular area 30a, and has an elliptic central portion 31 having its major axis in the longitudinal direction of the diaphragm 3 and a peripheral portion 32 spreading around the central portion 31. The central portion 31 includes an adhesive layer 33 for fixing a coil 21, laid on a central area of a diaphragm body 30, and is formed thicker than the peripheral portion 32.
