APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CHANNEL ESTIMATING IN GENERALIZED RAKE RECEIVER

A channel estimation method in the generalized rake receiver and an apparatus therefor are provided to prevent the phenomenon that a weighted value is abnormally amplified due to a channel estimation error by determining whether to update the weighted value by using the preset maximum SNR(Signal-to-Noise Ratio) according to the state of a channel, thereby preventing the performance of the receiver from being degraded. A channel estimation apparatus comprises the followings: a weight calculator(511) for calculating weighted values for each signal of multiple paths; an SNR estimating unit(513) for producing the SNRs for the calculated weighted values; a weight controlling unit(517) which compares the calculated SNRs with a critical value set according to the state of a channel to determine whether to update the weighted values; and a weight updating unit(515) which compares and updates the calculated SNRs with the previous SNRs.
