A mixture of minerals to be conveyed hydraulically, and containing substances of different specific gravity and hardness, is prepared by dividing it into portions of higher and lower specific gravity, crushing the separate portions to such particle sizes that the rate of sinking in the carrier liquid of the heavier portion is equal to or less than the lighter portion, and combining the two portions. The minerals may be crushed one after the other in a single machine, simultaneously in a single machine by introducing the two portions at different points or in two separate machines. Where a machine separates minerals into a plurality of products the two portions containing the highest proportions of desired product are selected and crushed according to the invention and conveyed hydraulically. The surface of minerals may be treated e.g. by wetting agents. |
