An aqueous emulsion comprises, as the disperse phase, specified proportions of a polymer of isobutylene, a solid polymer of b -pinene, finely divided clay and a flocculating agent for the clay. Pigments, extenders and dyes, e.g. titanium dioxide, talc, mica and diatomaceous earth, may also be present. The isobutylene polymer may be a homopolymer or a copolymer with styrene or butadiene, but with the isobutylene units in preponderant amount. Specified flocculating agents are copper sulphate, potassium dichromate, aluminium sulphate, sulphuric acid and acetic acid. The emulsions find application as coatings for roofs and walls. |
