PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping force adjusting type shock absorber of a vehicle height adjusting strut type having an actuator turn stopper structure capable of preventing harnesses of an exteriorly mounted actuator or an interiorly mounted actuautor from turning certainly and also preventing noise from being emitted in the prevention of rotation by avoiding the contacting of metal members with each other. SOLUTION: When a spring sheet 212 fitted on a piston rod 213 is rotated around a center shaft 214, the rotation is checked by the abutment of a projection 20 on an actuator side stopper 206 fitted to the spring sheet 212 and a lower projection 202 on a vehicle body side stopper 201 firmly attached to an upper mount 200. Also in the case of rotation in the reverse direction, the rotation is checked by abutment of a protrusion 208 of the actuator side stopper 206 fitted to the spring sheet 212 and a lower projection 203 of the vehicle side stopper 201 firmly attached to the upper mount 202. Thus, the harness including a control line or the like that controls the damping force adjusting actuator is prevented from winding to the upper end of the piston rod 213 and a body of the damping force adjusting actuator.
