A tone and probe set for tracing telecommunications lines is provided. The set comprises a tone generator and transmitter unit (10) for generating and transmitting a tone at one end (14) of a telecommunications line (P1), and a receiver unit (12) that can be used at the other end (16) of the telecommunications line (P1) for detecting the generated tone. Significantly, the tone is of a sufficiently high frequency that any services being carried by the telecommunications line (P1) will not be affected, and of a sufficiently high amplitude to allow detection by the receiver unit (12), so as to provide non-intrusive tracing of the telecommunications line (P1). |
