A method in improving recognition rate of SD card and apparatus thereof are provided to improve the cognition speed of the SD card and the stability of system by omitting the initialization of the SD card. If the terminal receives the sleep signal, the apparatus for improving the cognition speed of the SD (Secure Digital) card determines whether the mobile SD card is inserted(S210,S215). If the SD card is inserted, the apparatus supplies the power to the SD card. The data/command line and clock are disable and stores the SD card recognition state in the memory(S220,S225). The apparatus sets up the mobile terminal in the sleep mode(S230). If the resume signal is received, the apparatus recognizes the SD card by the data/command line and the SD card recognition state stored in the memory(S235,S245,S250).
