A hook for mooring ships comprises a hook member a pivoted at b between side plates n and held in a raised position by a member c having a flat -surface lying substantially in a plane including the axis of rotation of the member and engaging end p of the hook member. Member c is pivoted between the side plates and held in the position shown by a latch d pivoted at e and engaging arm k.
