The present invention refers to a process by which a homogeneous plating layer is deposited by immersion without the application of an electric current. The aforesaid deposition is performed onto steel pieces with decorative or functional purposes. Said process is characterised in that it may be carried out onto low, medium and high carbon steel pieces, in that it is cost effective, practically operated, and easily controlled, it reduces the environmental impact regarding the traditional electrolytic method and is easily improved at an industrial level as it may be automated.
