An image forming apparatus having a function to set fax-environment and a method setting thereof are provided to determine a country code by searching an address and to set up a facsimile environment corresponding to the country code when the image forming apparatus is connected to a network. A user applies a power to an image forming apparatus(S110), and a LAN card is connected to a network(S120). When a DHCP sever is at a non-operational mode, the LAN card requests an address from a user(S130). When an address of the image forming address is set up, a controller applies a command to the LAN card in order for the image forming apparatus to request the address to which the image forming apparatus belongs from the network and the LAN card requests the address information to the network(S140). An address tracking result for the ISP is received through the LAN card, and the LAN card informs the controller of the received address information. The controller compares the received addresses with a country address list and selects a corresponding country(S150). The controller searches a facsimile environment corresponding to the country code from the list and sets of the configuration of a facsimile in the searched facsimile environment(S160).
