An automatic navigation system and method are provided to automatically inform a user of a route by using stored history of route setting frequently used by the user and GPS(Global Positioning System) receiving information. An automatic navigation system(100) includes a GPS receiver(101), a storage unit(103), a computing unit(102), a search unit(105), and a microcomputer(104). The GPS receiver detects the current position of a user and receives data. The storage unit stores route search history of the user. The computing unit calculates real time and date data from the data received by the GPS receiver. The search unit searches the route search history data stored in the storage unit for route search history corresponding to the real time and date calculated by the computing unit. The microcomputer compares the number of repeated route searches in the searched route search history with a number of times set by the user and outputs route data of the repeated route searches when the number of repeated route searches is greater than the number of times set by the user.
