PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position sensor of a shift lever which allows the forecast of a shift to a next position and can perform accurate detection even when output fluctuations of the position sensor become large. SOLUTION: The position sensor 100 for performing the position detection of the shift lever 10 includes: a voltage output section 1 including a plurality of detection areas which are arranged along the movement direction of the shift lever 10 and include a voltage range having a first gradient and transient areas which are arranged between the plurality of detection areas and include a voltage range having a second gradient; a comparison section 3 which compares an actually measured value of voltage output from the voltage output section 1 to a predetermined value of voltage to perform the position detection of the present shift lever 10; and a forecast section 4 which, when the shift lever 10 is operated to be moved from one detection area out of the plurality of detection areas to another detection area, forecasts the other detection area before the shift lever 10 is positioned at the other detection area on the basis of a change in the actually measured value of voltage on the basis of the first gradient within the one detection area.
