PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide image formation of high image quality in an image forming apparatus using a vibrating element which may vary or change in scanning frequency. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises: a device information storage means for storing frequency related to scanning of the vibrating element; an image storage means for storing image data to form an image; an image processing means for carrying out enlarging or reducing processing of the image data in a direction orthogonal to a scanning direction according to a given parameter; a setting means for computing a parameter, based on the frequency stored in the device information storage means and the preset reference frequency and setting it to the image processing means; and a driving means for driving a laser optical element based on the image data processed by the image processing means.
