PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pressure reduction control method properly applied in reducing a pressure of a storage compartment of a refrigerator. SOLUTION: This refrigerator comprises a vacuum pump for reducing a pressure by sucking the air in a low pressure compartment, and a pressure detecting means for determining whether the pressure in the low pressure compartment is higher or lower than a prescribed pressure range, and the vacuum pump is stopped when it is determined that the pressure is lowered to the prescribed pressure range by operating the vacuum pump, and the pressure reaches a pressure reduction target pressure after the lapse of a prescribed time 1 of an operation integrated time of the vacuum pump. A timer means 1 is disposed to measure the operation integrated time of the vacuum pump from the operation of the vacuum pump in a state of higher than an atmospheric target pressure to the lowering of the pressure to the prescribed pressure range, and the prescribed time 1 is variable according to a measured time by the timer means 1.
