PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiple-cylinder type buffer which can select a water-based fluid as a working fluid. SOLUTION: The multiple-cylinder type buffer D is provided with a cylinder 1, a piston 2, a piston rod 3, an outer case 4 covering the cylinder 1, a reservoir R, a bearing member 5, and a sealing member 6. The piston 2 is inserted slidably into the cylinder 1, and defines two pressure chambers R1, R2 in the cylinder 1, and the piston rod 3 is connected to the piston 2. The reservoir R is formed between the cylinder 1 and the outer case 4, and the bearing member 5 provided at the end of the cylinder 1 to pivot the piston rod 3. Then the sealing member 6 laminated on the bearing member 5 to seal the space between the outer case 4 and the piston rod 3. The working fluid, which has passed through the space between the inner periphery of the bearing member 5 and the outer periphery of the piston rod 3, is refluxed to the reservoir R through the space between the bearing member 5 and the sealing member 6. In this case, the space between the sealing member 6 and the piston rod 3 is lubricated by the lubricant added to the working fluid which is a water-based fluid, and the air space G of the reservoir R is partitioned by a diaphragm 7.
