Disclosed are: a compound represented by the general formula (I-1); and an ultraviolet ray absorbent having a molecular weight of 10000 or less and having a molar extinction coefficient of 80000 or more at the maximum absorption wavelength. General formula (I-1) wherein R21 to R24 independently represent a hydrogen atom or a univalent substituent, provided that all of R21 to R24 cannot represent an alkylthio group at the same time; R21 and R22 and R23 and R24 may together form a ring, provided that the formed ring cannot be a dithiol or dithiolane ring; R25 and R26 independently represent a hydrogen atom or a univalent substituent; X21 to X24 independently represent a heteroatom, provided that a case where all of R21 to R24 represent a cyano group, a case where all of X21 to X24 represent a sulfur atom and a case where both of R25 and R26 represent a hydroxy group or a hydrogen atom are excluded, and a case where both of R21 and R23 represent a hydrogen atom, a case where both of R22 and R24 represent an arylcarbonyl group, a case where all of X21 to X24 represent a sulfur atom and a case where both of R25 and R26 represent a hydroxy group are also excluded.
