<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely eliminate air mixed in a fluid pressure circuit without relying on a vacuum pump and a complicated steering operation. <P>SOLUTION: This steering device is provided with a power cylinder 6 having pressure chambers 6L and 6R and a pump 5 having one connection port communicated with the pressure chamber 6L and the other connection port communicated with the pressure chamber 6R to be drivable in both directions, and assists steering of wheels by thrust of a piston 7 when driving the pump 5. The steering device is provided with a bypass flow passage 24 for communicating the pressure chamber 6L with the pressure chamber 6R in parallel with the pump 5, a selector valve 25 capable of opening/closing the bypass flow passage 24, a relief flow passage 22 communicated with a space in the pump 5 filled with working fluid via a prescribed fine gap, and a check valve 21 capable of discharging the working fluid flowing in the relief flow passage 22 to the reservoir tank 10. The selector valve 25 is opened and the pump 5 is driven in one direction.
