The method involves arranging a rotary driven operating spindle (5) of a machining tool (1) for accommodating a tool (3) with a geometrically defined cutter (4). The tempering of a workpiece (2) and/or the tool is performed under the consideration of a thermal expansion coefficient of a material of the workpiece and of the thermal expansion coefficient of the tool using a tempering device (17) e.g. heating device. The temperature of the workpiece is adjusted based on the temperature of the tool such that desired specific size of the work piece is resulted with a mechanical processing. An independent claim is also included for a machining tool for processing a workpiece.
