SPEED DETECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD

A speed detecting system and a detecting method thereof are provided to obtain high imaging quality even in low brightness condition by using LED arrays of high brightness as a light emitting device. An imaging device(114) takes a picture of the front surface of a running vehicle at a certain cycle. A control module(100) traces a number plate area from image information of the image device. When the number plate area is detected, the control module detects the speed of the vehicle by detecting moving amount of the number plate area in sequential frames of the image. Then, the control module detects a vehicle type by detecting feature information of the vehicle type from the frames. Finally, the control module corrects the detected vehicle speed correspondingly to the vehicle type.
