The invention relates to nuclear power engineering, in particular to the structural design for ampules of the irradiation unit of a nuclear reactor and can be used for producing gamma-radiation sources. The inventive ampule for the irradiation unit of a nuclear reactor comprises a sealed cylindrical canister containing pellets which are made of a radioactivated material and separated by means of spacers made of a weakly neutron-absorbing material, wherein each spacer is designed in the form of a snap ring with a radial notch, the ratio between the ring radial thickness and the diameter thereof ranges from 0.05 to 0.1 and the ratio between the radial compression value of the ring, during the ampule assembling process, and the diameter thereof ranges from 0.008 to 0.02. Said invention reduces the thermal gradient between the radioactivated pellets and a heat carrier, thereby making it possible to increase the permissible temperature of the ampule-cooling heat carrier and to irradiate cobalt-containing ampules in compressed water reactors.
