Disclosed is a coating composition having good mechanical stability, good storage stability and excellent coatability even when the amount of a fluorine-containing surfactant contained therein is reduced. Specifically disclosed is a coating composition characterized by being an aqueous dispersion which contains, in an aqueous medium, fluororesin particles (A) composed of a fluororesin, resin particles (B) which start to be decomposed and vaporized at a temperature not higher than the decomposition temperature of the fluororesin, and a nonionic surfactant (C). This coating composition is further characterized in that 5-25 parts by mass of the resin particles (B) is contained per 100 parts by mass of the fluororesin particles (A), and a fluorine-containing surfactant is contained in an amount of less than 500 ppm relative to the fluororesin particles (A).
