PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit upsizing of a rocker arm, inhibit increase of a rocker ratio more than necessary, and reduce PV value or the like in a continuously variable valve gear using a rocking cam. SOLUTION: The variable valve gear for an internal combustion engine, continuously changing lift characteristics (lift quantity) and operation angle of a valve 18, is provided with: the rocking cam 6 rocking, synchronizing with rotation of the engine; and a valve contact part 17 contacting a support part 19 at a part near one end part, and the valve 18 at a part near the other end part, and is provided with a rocker arm 15 provided with a cam follower part 16 contacting the rocking cam 6 between the support part 19 and the valve contact part 17. A cam surface 6b of the rocking cam 6 projects to a side opposite the support part 19 with respect to a rocking shaft 6a of the rocking cam 6, and the cam follower part 16 has at least two arcs having different curvature, and has a profile of larger curvature at the support part 19 side than that at the valve contact part 17 side.
