PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an empty box information detection system capable of easily detecting an empty returnable container without doing any extra work. SOLUTION: The empty box information detection system comprises an RF tag 3 which is held by a returnable container 1, and stores information including at least identification information in advance, and reads the information from the outside by the radio communication, an electromagnetic shielding plate 6 movably provided on a returnable container 1 between the communication shielding position P1 for shielding the radio communication between the RF tag 3 and the outside and the communicable position P2 enabling the radio communication according to presence/absence of any stored object in the returnable container 1, a reader 4 for reading information from the RF tag 3 by performing the radio communication with the RF tag 3 with which the radio communication is not shielded by the electromagnetic shielding plate 6 out of the RF tags 3 present in a communicable area, and a returnable container control device 5 having an empty box detection means 52 for determining presence/absence of any stored object in the returnable container 1 with the RF tag 3 being mounted thereon based on the information read from the RF tag 3 by the reader 4.
